About The Artist
Hey guys! Meet Clare Samani. She’s a senior in the School of Art’s Printmaking program at Cal State Long Beach. She is currently planning on going to grad school in Louisiana, she explained “change is good.” She also mentioned drawing with her dad as a child as a start to her art interests.
The work displays pieces of clothing outlines such as shirts, dresses and skirts. They are printed photos. However by using a film over the picture, a texture throughout the piece is conveyed through the photographs. Each photo provides an image of different textured clothing with colors of the artist’s choosing.
Admiration for fashion and how people use clothes as a form of self expression and discovery is the main focus of these pieces. The artist mentions how she physically works with articles of clothing that she’s either given, found or bought. She goes on to explain that she creates object-based portraits using the fabric as both a material artifact and tool to creating imagery.
This exhibit was intriguing from the beginning I walked in. I was eager to meet the artist and was able to do so once she got out of her class and returned. I believe her work to truly be an expression in itself with the pieces she selected to photograph. I hope that she continues her work and that I am able to some day stumble upon it once again.
