Elena Roznovan is a second year graduate student at Cal State Long Beach’s School of Art. She is currently working on getting her Master’s degree in the Fine Arts and majoring in Sculpture. For her undergraduate studies she attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. That’s where she learned how to sculpt in the first place. She is from Moldova, a country that is next to Ukraine. Her interests in art started around drawing and painting and then progressed toward installations when she moved to California.
Roznovan’s works best with video installations. For this particular exhibition, she displays a moving image of a California dessert with a projector. Colored optical props are positioned to make the image seem as if it is 3D or moving. The optical frames also have 2D and 4D content that when looked at create an illusion of a 3D experience.
This particular piece creates an illusion of 3D with special props that allow onlookers to feel as though the image is moving. She uses a projection of the Desert to captivate her audience. Closing off the section of her piece with a curtain to not ruin the illusion.
Over all, her work was amazing to look at. I was captivated the whole time. I found myself sitting i that area and just overlooking the movements created by the props effects. I hope that she continues her work, as I will continue on as a fan of it. If you get the chance, definitely check out her work for yourself!
